Product Recall Lawsuits Relating to Triad Alcohol Swab and Pad Recall
Frier Levitt announces that its attorneys are reviewing Triad Alcohol Swab and Pad Recall cases.
The Triad Alcohol Swab and Pad recall is a unique event, in the context of healthcare product liability recalls. With hospital infection cases, it is often difficult to prove the origin of the infection. Infections can cause serious injury and in some cases death. But, it can be difficult to prove whether the infection came from a defective product or a lapse in infection control procedures by a hospital.

However, in this case there is a particular strain of bacteria that is linked to the Triad Alcohol Swab and Pads. The proofs in these Triad cases may be clearer than typical infection cases because this is not a generalized infection. Here, a particular strain of bacteria was carried by the pads and transmitted to hospital patients. Strains of bacteria are analogous to a human fingerprints. The bacteria’s fingerprint may lead directly back to Triad, the producer and manufacturer of this potentially defective product.
This is not a case, for example, where we will allege that the swab wasn't fit for its intended purpose and the patient received an infection from some other source, such as a nurse's gloves not being properly sterilized. In these cases, we will not allege that the alcohol swabs failed to kill bacteria (its intended purpose). The Triad swab may have actually carried the bacteria because of a manufacturing defect.
What makes the bacteria even more dangerous is that the swabs were used on immune-compromised patients, such as those with cancer, and HIV positive patients, as well patients on dialysis. For patients with compromised immune systems, the bacteria possibly carried on the alcohol swabs is deadlier.
Frier Levitt lawyers are looking for individuals who have suffered an infection as a result of the recalled alcohol swabs, alcohol pads and alcohol swabsticks (“swab products”). These swab products were sold under differing brand names and included with several injectable medications.
In February, Triad Group recalled swab products after learning of contamination by Bacillus cereus. This bacteria can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections.
The Triad alcohol swabs were sold under the following brand names: Triad Group, Boca/Ultilet, Cardinal Health, Conzelin, CBS, Moore Medical, PSS Select, VersaPro and Walgreens. The Triad alcohols swabs were also prepackaged with a number of different medications, including Relistor, Boniva, Betaseron, Nutropn A.Q., Extavia, Arixtra and others.
